Welcome to year 2. We hope you will enjoy seeing what we get up to in our lessons and day to day school life, as well as being able to find lots of useful information to get you through the school year.

Useful Information

PE days are Tuesday and Thursday.
Children can come to school wearing their PE kit on these days every week.
Please note: children should be warm and comfortable as they will be in their kit all day but they also need to be appropriately dressed for PE lessons that could take place indoors or out.

Spelling tests are weekly on Friday, unless stated otherwise.
You can find the spelling test words for each test in the spelling area of the Year 2 page.

Non-negotiables at Christ Church are that children should take time each day to read, practice spellings, and learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
We do not give homework to Year 2 but we do ask that they work on these non-negotiables regularly.

Our curriculum is creative and varied. We plan our year with a range of exciting, challenging activities around our topic for each term. Please see the attached documents below to find out what’s in store this year.

Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check

This is a strategy used to help children learn their spellings.

Your child is given a word to spell and:

  • looks at it
  • says the word
  • covers it over with a piece of paper or their hand
  • writes the spelling again next to the word
  • uncovers the spelling to check if they have got it right.

This is a good method to teach children so they can practise learning the spelling of words, but also so that they are testing themselves.

A knowledge organiser is a one page document, that contains key facts, information and vocabulary that will help your child understand a topic being covered. We make knowledge organisers for our main focus topic and science each term.
